Minor to retire as chairman of Owens & Minor
February 01, 2013 2:34 PMG. Gilmer Minor III, a descendant of one of the company’s founders, will retire in April as chairman of Mechanicsville-based Owens & Minor Inc.
Owens & Minor is a national distributor of surgical supplies and a health-care supply-chain management company.
Minor, 72, will become chairman emeritus and be succeeded as chairman by Craig R. Smith, the company’s president and CEO.
Minor joined the company in 1963 and served as its CEO from 1984 to 2005.
Smith, who joined Owens & Minor in 1989, has served as president and CEO since 2005, when he was also elected to the board of directors.
The transition will take place at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting on April 26.
