MeadWestvaco to close Louisa plant
March 19, 2009 9:04 AM

Richmond paper and packaging manufacturer MeadWestvaco will close a Louisa manufacturing plant this year, laying off 171 employees.

The plant’s closing is part of a larger restructuring by the company. The recession has dampened demand for packaging.

The company announced in January that it would reduce its worldwide work force by 2,000 jobs and restructure 12 to 14 of its manufacturing plants in 2010 to save $250 million to $300 million.

In January, the company cut 75 from the work force at its corporate headquarters. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
