September 24, 2012 11:18 AM

Health-care company McKesson Corp. plans to open a distribution center in Frederick County, creating 205 new jobs.

McKesson’s Medical-Surgical unit, which is based in Richmond, will invest $36.9 million in the distribution center, which will distribute medical and surgical products to health-care facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. McKesson has more than 1,000 employes in Virginia. In addition to the headquarters in Richmond, the company also has a pharmaceutical distribution center in Caroline County.

“It’s another great opportunity to match the strength of Virginia’s infrastructure and labor force with our strong growth,” said Stanton McComb, president, McKesson Medical-Surgical.

Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to help Frederick with the project.

A company spokesman did not have a timeline for construction of the project, but said these typically take 12 to 18 months to complete.
