Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that Virginia has hired two marketing representatives in India to promote economic development opportunities in the country.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership hired Kavan Bhandary, of Sparta Strategy, to represent Virginia in Mumbai. Srinath Rao, with Feedback Consulting Services, will be based in Bangalore.
“India is a very valuable market for the commonwealth, as Virginia exported nearly $293.7 million in goods to India during 2010,” McDonnell, who is on a two-week trade mission to Israel and India, said in a statement. “As one of the world’s fastest growing economies, India is a key player in the global marketplace. With the addition of Virginia representation in the country, we open the door to further grow a strong economic relationship with India … “
India was Virginia’s 15th largest export destination in 2010, up from 24th in 2008. Bituminous coal was the top export to India from Virginia in 2010.
