Roanoke-based Luna Innovations Inc. has named My E. Chung as CEO and president effective April 25.

Chung has been senior vice president of worldwide sales for Sunrise Telecom, a publicly traded company, since September 2009.  Before joining Sunrise Telecom, Chung was president and CEO of Circadiant Systems Inc. where he was instrumental in the sale of the company to JDS Uniphase Corp. in 2008.

Luna develops and manufactures products for the health-care, telecommunications, energy and defense markets. The company’s products are used to measure, monitor, protect and improve critical processes.

Chung succeeds Dale Messick, who was named interim president and chief operating officer in August. Messick will return to the role of chief financial officer. Kent Murphy, the company’s founder, resigned as CEO in August but remained a consultant to the company and a member of its board of directors.
