Virginia Beach-based Liberty Tax Service will offer free classes in basic tax preparation in January.
The company said its “Rapid Tax Classes” are designed to help individuals who plan to do their own tax returns as well as train people who want to become tax preparers.
Liberty Tax Service will hire more than 60,000 employees in early 2012 in preparation for the tax season. Positions will include tax preparers, administrative workers and marketers.
The weeklong Rapid Tax Classes are designed to cover the fundamentals of income tax preparation. Most of the classes will be offered during weekdays on the first, second and third weeks of January.
The company also offers classroom-based and online courses in intermediate and advance tax preparation.
Liberty Tax Service, founded in 1997 by CEO John T. Hewitt, has prepared more than 9 million individual income tax returns.
