Lawmakers leave Richmond without transportation plan
July 10, 2008 9:17 AMLegislators failed to pass a transportation spending plan Wednesday, leaving state residents with nothing but a $100,000 bill.
State lawmakers worked into early Thursday morning, but each chamber killed the other’s proposals. The House of Delegates defeated a Senate transportation bill that would have raised taxes and fees. House Democrats had stripped the gas tax increase from the bill.
A Senate committee scuttled a bill passed by the House of Delegates that would have raised money for Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads through regional taxes. For more information, see the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s story.
