Language workplace bill dies in committee
February 21, 2008 9:20 AM

A bill that would allow businesses to fire employees for speaking languages other than English at work died in a Senate committee on Wednesday.

The legislation was designed to prevent businesses from facing discrimination lawsuits. The law would have applied only if an established workplace policy required that English be spoken.

The Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology defeated the bill in a tie vote.
