ITT Exelis wins contract for software upgrade
July 11, 2012 2:32 PM

McLean-based ITT Exelis has been awarded a $19.6 million contract for software enhancements to the F/A-18 warfare system.

The system involved is the Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures (IDECM) ALQ-214 Common On-board Jammer (OBJ).

“Since the F/A-18 remains the Navy’s front line strike fighter, its effective protection against any threat is critical,” Rich Sorelle, acting president of Exelis Electronic Systems division, said in a statement.

Under the contract, awarded by the Naval Air Systems Command based in Patuxent River, Md., more than 230 Navy aircraft currently flying with the system will receive the new software beginning in 2015.

The upgrade will be performed by the Exelis Electronic Systems division in Clifton, N.J.

ITT Exelis employs about 20,500 people and generated 2011 sales of $5.8 billion.
