Hurricane tax holiday begins Sunday
- May 23, 2008
Virginians can shop tax free for hurricane preparedness items next week.
During the tax holiday, state sales tax will not be imposed on 23 products that could help families prepare for hurricanes. Those items include generators under $1,000, batteries, food storage containers, bottled water and first aid kits.
“Virginia’s hard-working families drive our economy and providing them with this much-needed break is important to maintaining our safety and quality of life,” Speaker of the House of Delegates William J. Howell said in a statement. “And, encouraging families to shop Virginia first gives an added boost to our job-creating retailers and economy.”
