After sprucing up on the inside, The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center has completed a $200,000 renovation of an open-air garden courtyard. The 6,270-square-foot courtyard, designed as a multidimensional space, can seat up to 250 guests. A gazebo provides a focal point for events, and there’s an outdoor lounge and fireplace. The courtyard is the latest in a series of $8.5 million in renovations since 2008 that have updated many areas of the historic hotel, including guest rooms, corridors, public areas and conference center space. “This renovation builds upon the hotel’s premier status as a destination and meeting facility in southwest Virginia …” Gary Walton, general manager of The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, said in a statement. The 331-room hotel operates as a joint project of Hotel Roanoke LLC, the city of Roanoke and Virginia Tech. It’s managed by the Hilton Hotels Corp.
