Five Virginia hospitals has been listed as having the highest efficiency ranking by Virginia Health Information, a nonprofit organization that collects a wide range of information about health providers throughout the state.
Virginia Health Information assessed and ranked hospitals and nursing facilities based on five performance categories: charges, costs, productivity and utilization, financial viability and community support.
Because of significant differences in regional cost structure, the organization “leveled the playing field” by applying Medicare’s Wage-Price Index to accurately compare acute-care hospitals.
The hospitals with the highest efficiency ranking were:
• Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville
• Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester
• Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington
• Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News
• Prince William Hospital in Manassas
The ranking is part of Virginia Health Information’s “2011 Industry Report: Virginia Hospital & Nursing Facilities,” which reports efficiency rankings, providers’ costs, profits and charity care.
Information from the report is also online at http://www.vhi.org along with additional information on hospital quality of care and patient satisfaction information.
