Health Diagnostic Laboratory Inc. announced Wednesday that it has acquired Harris Scientific Inc., which provides omega-3 fatty acid testing based on the research of William Harris. The company said the acquisition will expand Richmond-based HDL’s test menu of risk factors and biomarkers for cardiovascular and related diseases.
Harris, a research professor of medicine at the University of South Dakota’s Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls, S.D., will join HDL to enhance HDL’s fatty acid panel of tests. This panel supplies health care providers with information for guiding treatment options and improving health outcomes.
“(Harris) is widely regarded as the thought leader in the association between omega-3 biostatus and cardiac death,” Tonya Mallory, CEO and co-founder of HDL, said in a statement. Mallory said Harris will help HDL establish the fatty acid profile as the worldwide standard for tracking and optimizing omega-3 status, which aims to result in reduced morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases.
