An application from the Georgelas Group for a rezoning to build five apartment projects at Tysons Corner has received preliminary approval from the Fairfax County Planning Commission. The rezoning for Spring Hill Station is the first to be considered under the county’s new urban building plan for Tysons. It goes before the Board of Supervisors for a vote on Tuesday. If the supervisors give final approval, construction on the first of five residential towers could begin next year. The Georgelas Group, based in McLean, plans a 26-story apartment building near a future Metro rail stop at Leesburg Pike and Spring Hill Road. The other projects would be 20 stories each, with 20 percent of the units reserved as affordable housing, a condition required by Fairfax’s urban building plan for Tysons.
