Dominion proposes plan to reduce pollution at Fluvanna plant
- February 5, 2008
Dominon Resources is proposing to cut pollution at its Fluvanna plant if its coal-fired power plant in Wise County is approved.
Switching the Bremo Power Station from coal to natural gas would reduce the emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide, Dominion said in a news release.
Dominion says switching the Bremo plant would only be plausible if its proposed coal-fired plant in Wise County were approved.
However, a spokesman from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, one of the groups that would be required to approve the conversion, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch the decisions are separate and the proposal would not affect whether it approves the Wise plant.
The State Corporation Commission is scheduled to hear expert testimony today on the proposed Wise plant, which many environmental groups oppose.
Dominion says the plant is necessary to handle an expected jump in demand for electricity.
