A Fairfax County entrepreneur and his wife have committed $5 million to a trust benefiting Inova Health System research.
The trust will provide support for research initiatives through the Betty and Guy Beatty Center for Integrated Research on the Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus in Falls Church.
Guy Beatty is the founder and chair of the McLean-based Beatty Cos. He has been responsible for the development of 40 companies in fields ranging from real estate development to music, and entertainment.
“Mr. and Mrs. Beatty have become true benefactors of research at Inova,” Zobair Younossi, vice president for research with the Inova Health System and chairman of the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax, said in a statement. “This gift will provide essential support as Inova pursues a goal of significantly increasing research activity in the future.”
During the past five years, the Beattys have committed more than $12 million to support research at the hospital.
Their initial support was to build the Betty and Guy Beatty Center for Integrated Research, which opened in 2008.
Their second gift, $5 million given in 2010, established the Beatty Liver and Obesity Research Program and provided the Center with resources to expand Inova’s research efforts focused on liver disease, obesity and obesity-related liver diseases.
Inova Health System is a not-for-profit Northern Virginia health care system that includes hospitals and other health services, including emergency- and urgent-care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services and wellness classes.
