Ashby Ponds, a retirement community in Ashburn, has started on its latest project: a continuing-care neighborhood. The addition of the four-story, 120,000 square-foot building will complete the community’s mission of providing all levels of health care at one site, the first of its kind in Loudoun County.
The new building will include 132 residences offering assisted-living, memory-care, short-term rehabilitation and nursing-care services. “We are very excited to be bringing the full health care continuum of services to Ashby Ponds … “ David Gallagher, executive director of Ashby Ponds, said in a statement. “While many of our residents will not need higher levels of care, I understand the peace of mind that comes with having these services available.”
The continuing-care neighborhood has been designed by the firm of Lantz-Boggio Architects. Whiting-Turner will serve as the general contractor. Construction is expected to be complete by early spring 2014.
Ashby Ponds opened a new independent living residential building in April 2012. It has 80 deluxe apartment/style homes, and was more than 90 percent reserved before its opening.
Erickson Living’s second Northern Virginia campus, Ashby Ponds opened in 2008. It’s one of 16 retirement communities managed by Erickson Living. Situated on a 132-acre campus, Ashby Ponds is about 30 miles west of Washington, D.C.
