Construction begins on 214,000-square-foot data center in Ashburn

Work is underway on a 214,000-square-foot data center at Digital Realty Trust Inc.’s data center campus in Ashburn. This is the fourth building the San Francisco-based company has developed at the campus in recent years. It celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony last week attended by Loudoun County officials and political leaders from Northern Virginia.
The building shell and care is supposed to be done by the end of the year. The first three 1.125 megawatt, purposed-built data centers should be available in the second quarter of 2013. “Our strategy is to have inventory readily available for customers in our top data center markets,” Michael F. Foust, CEO for Digital Realty, said in a statement. “With our existing facilities nearly fully leased within the Ashburn campus, we expect the timely delivery of this new space a year from now to satisfy customers’ data center requirements for the foreseeable future.”
