Aneesh Chopra, the nation’s first chief technology officer, is leaving the White House, The Washington Post reported.

Before being appointed by President Obama to his current post in May 2009, Chopra was Virginia’s secretary of technology under former Gov. Tim Kaine.

The Washington Post reported that Chopra plans to run for lieutenant governor as a Democrat next year.

Chopra’s departure was first reported by FedScoop, a government IT media company.
