David and Steve Martin, brothers who worked together in the transformation of a Richmond-based advertising powerhouse, The Martin Agency, now are collaborating on a newly refashioned marketing communications firm, Martin Partners.
The firm, formerly known as Martin Branding, was a brand development firm formed by David Martin and his sons in 1999.
David Martin will serve as senior brand consultant working with selected clients at Martin Partners. Steve Martin will be senior partner of the firm, and Jim Maxwell will continue as managing partner in charge of day-to-day operations.
David Martin is a founder of the advertising agency Martin & Woltz, which became The Martin Agency after the departure of George Woltz.
Steve Martin, who had been Washington office general manager of Martin & Woltz, became strategic plans director at the Martin Agency.
The brothers worked together there during a time it was transformed from a local to a nationally prominent ad agency.
After The Martin Agency was sold to the Ogilvy Group, the brothers created a new agency, Hawley Martin Partners, that first was sold to ad agency holding company Interpublic and then to Arnold Communications.
In recent years Steve Martin has been the owner of a publishing firm, The Oaklea Press Inc. and served as a marketing consultant. He works on a contract basis as marketing director for the Richmond Raiders professional indoor football team.
