Best Buy is closing 50 of its U.S. stores, including three locations in Virginia: Landmark Mall in Alexandria, the Cosner’s Corner store at 9745 Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg and its East Richmond store at 4410 S Laburnum Ave.
The closings are part of an effort by the electronics retailer to restructure its business model by reducing overall square footage while revamping other stores to smaller formats. Best Buy said in a statement that most of the stores will close by May 12. The company, which has about 1,400 stores, said it would help employees at the closing stores try to find other positions within Best Buy or provide them with severance packages.
