Batten ranked No. 17 on generous donors list

Frank Batten Sr., the former chairman and CEO of Landmark Communications, ranked No. 17 on the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s list of the 50 biggest donors in 2007.
Batten, who appears on Virginia Business’ annual Virginia 100 list, pledged $100 million to his alma mater, the University of Virginia. The money will be used to create the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
Batten graduated from the school in 1950.
