June 11, 2008 7:37 AM

APM Terminals is considering moving its North American headquarters to the $450 million terminal it opened in Portsmouth last year, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

APM, a division of Denmark-based A.P. Moller-Maersk, currently has its North American headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.

Portsmouth city councilors told the newspaper that APM is currently looking for a $500,000 city grant and a tax abatement of up to 50 percent on investments between $50 million and $250 million. APM plans to expand its Portsmouth terminal.

The Pilot said the city council could vote on a deal as soon as July.
