Danville-based American National Bank and Trust Co. marked its 103rd anniversary Friday by changing the names of its newly acquired branches in North Carolina.

Eight former MidCarolina Bank offices in North Carolina’s Piedmont region have been renamed as American National branches and integrated into its banking system.

The branches had operated under the MidCarolina name as a division of the Danville bank since the July 1 merger of its parent company, American National Bankshares Inc., and Burlington, N.C.-based MidCarolina Financial Corp.

The all-stock deal, valued at $34.7 million, raised American National’s total assets to $1.3 billion.

Jeffrey V. Haley, the president and CEO of American National, said in a statement that the merger
“supports our strategy to become a 21st century bank.”

Charles Canaday, MidCarolina’s president and CEO, will serve as president of North Carolina banking for American National.

American National now has 25 branches in Southern and Central Virginia plus Alamance and Guilford counties in North Carolina.
