Altria Group in talks to purchase UST for $10 billion
September 05, 2008 9:31 AMRichmond-based Altria Group is in early discussions to buy the manufacturer of Skoal and Copenhagen smokeless tobacco brands for more than $10 billion. The New York Times reported that the deal to buy Stamford, Conn.-based UST could come as early as Monday. (The New York Times)
Work began this week on four downtown sections of Norfolk’s 7.4-mile light-rail line, The Tide. The construction is likely to cause traffic delays downtown until the rail opens in early 2010. (The Virginian-Pilot)
