Abusive driver fees set for repeal

The Virginia Senate joined the House of Delegates by passing a bill Wednesday that would eliminate the controversial abusive driver fees the legislature passed last year.
The Senate’s version of the bill, which passed unanimously, includes a provision to allow drivers already charged with the fees a way to get a refund. Under the provision, drivers charged with the fees would be able to petition a court to vacate the order. If a judge agrees, the state would refund the money if the driver provided proof of payment.
The House version, passed earlier this month, does not include the refund provision.
