National retailer J.Crew has completed the fourth expansion to its distribution center in Lynchburg. According to the News & Advance newspaper, employees, products and services were scheduled to begin moving into the new, 155,000-square-foot space on Enterprise Drive on Oct. 15.
The $20 million project is expected to bring more than 170 new full-time jobs to the area over the next two to three years. Currently, the New-York based retailer already employs more than 1,300 people in the Lynchburg area, and it’s gearing up to hire additional help during the holiday season.
Nearly all J. Crew orders pass through Lynchburg, where they are processed and packed for shipping. When the company broke ground on the expansion last year in a field behind their distribution center, store executives said the new space would allow it to double the amount of business that ships directly to consumers’ homes in more than 100 countries around the world.
J. Crew began doing business in Lynchburg in 1986, when it built the first phase of its distribution center on Enterprise Drive. Since that time, the company has expanded the center in 1989, 1994 and 2012.
