Travel ‘green’ in Virginia Beach
With 35 miles of shoreline, Virginia Beach is the perfect place to get away from it all. Visitors can relax on the 300-foot-wide beach or stroll the three-mile boardwalk. If you’re looking for a quieter beach experience, head to the city’s shores on the Chesapeake Bay. Looking for a little more adventure? Visit the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge or local state parks, where you can explore the area’s natural beauty while kayaking, hiking or biking.
And that’s certainly not all. Explore marine life at the Virginia Aquarium, golf at one of the region’s many courses, or head out on a whale or dolphin tour. Concert venues include beachfront amphitheaters. The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia also offers a chance to enjoy modern art. History lovers will want to explore the Fort Henry Lighthouses, one of which is the oldest government-built lighthouse (1792) in the U.S., the Old Coast Guard Station, and the Adam Thoroughgood House, one of the country’s oldest brick homes.
Virginia Beach was the commonwealth’s first Virginia “Green Destination,” giving travelers who are passionate about the environment a place they can feel good about visiting. Virginia Beach has more than 90 green-certified hospitality businesses.

Hold your meeting or convention at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, and you’ll impress your guests in a stunning facility. An additional bonus? The convention center was the first conference property in Virginia to be designated “Virginia Green.” The program recognized the center’s water efficiency, energy efficiency, minimal use of Styrofoam and disposable materials, recycling and support for green conventions. Meeting attendees will appreciate your environmental awareness.
The Virginia Beach Convention Center, which opened in 2007, offers more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space. A 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall — which is larger that three football fields combined — is free of columns. In addition, 23,929 square feet of meeting space is available and a 31,029-square-foot ballroom features programmable LED lighting to capture the tone you’re looking for. The convention center features the latest in technology, including a 360-degree video wall in the prefunction space that gives events an energetic boost. The center is equipped with high-speed Internet and the latest in audiovisual equipment. The facility also offers more than 2,000 free parking spaces.
