Virginia Tech names new director of energy initiatives

Virginia Tech has named alumnus Satish V. Kulkarni as director of energy initiatives for the university.

The position was created in recognition of the societal need for advanced technological solutions to energy concerns, according to a university statement.  Kulkarni will promote energy-related research and initiatives across the university starting March 30.

The Arlington native was previously associate vice president for new initiatives and partnerships at Georgetown University. Before that, he was counselor for science, technology, environment and health affairs at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, with the Department of State.

Kulkarni graduated from Virginia Tech in 1973 with a Ph.D in engineering science and mechanics.
