Virginia Tech Applied Research names executive director of Blacksburg operations

H. Bennett Teates has been named the executive director of the Blacksburg operations of the Virginia Tech Applied Research Corp.
Teates has more than 40 years of experience working in the national security area. A Vietnam War veteran, he was director of command and control programs at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and served as a program manager at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
He is the founder of Command Control Inc., which did research and prototype development for the Department of Defense and the power industry. After 13 years, he sold the company, which is now part of General Dynamics.
The mission of the Virginia Tech Applied Research is to extend the impact of Virginia Tech’s research and development expertise through developing, managing, and performing applied research under contract with government and private sector clients.
