May 03, 2011 5:39 PM

The Virginia Bar Association has named Yvonne C. McGhee as its new executive director.

Since 2000, McGhee has been executive director of the 2,000-member Fairfax Bar Association and Fairfax Law Foundation in Fairfax.

She will succeed Guy K. Tower at the helm of the 5,000-member VBA in June. Tower is retiring after six years at the state’s largest voluntary bar association.

McGhee will be responsible for executing the VBA board of governors’ new strategic plan and supervising a seven-member staff in Richmond.

McGhee is a graduate of the T.C. Williams School of Law of the University of Richmond.  She received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from King College in Bristol, Tenn.

She recently earned the Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives and serves as vice president of the National Association of Bar Executives.
