IT contractor will support initiative to make solar energy cost competitive
ManTech International Corp. has received a 17-month contract to support the U.S. Department of Energy’s efforts to make solar energy cost competitive.
ManTech, an IT contractor based in Fairfax, will provide scientific, engineering and technical support for the DOE’s SunShot Initiative. The 17-month contract is valued at $4 million.
The initiative is trying to reduce the cost of solar energy systems by 75 percent before 2020. The DOE believes reducing the cost of utility-scale solar electricity to 6 cents per kilowatt hour without subsidies will create large-scale adoption of solar electricity.
