Doug Hilemn, a 28-year veteran of the construction industry in Richmond, has joined Winchester-based Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. as a project director. Hilemn will spearhead the firm’s business development and provide executive-level project oversight in the central Virginia region.
“We think that the construction market in Virginia is beginning to stabilize and to show signs of improving long-term health. Our cautious optimism and our willingness to invest to create a better future, lead us to believe that this is a favorable time to expand our operations ― especially in the Richmond area,“ Shockey Vice President Jeff Boehm said in a statement.
In the past few years, Shockey has been active in the central Virginia market with such high-visibility projects as GRTC’s operations facility (selected the nation’s best industrial project in 2010 by The McGraw-Hill Cos. Inc.), the expansion of Riverside Regional Jail and the ongoing construction of Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.
Hilemn resides in Richmond. He has an engineering background and is experienced in all areas of construction, from project start-up and development to estimating, project management, operations and job-site safety.
He has previous experience with companies including DPR, Emerald, and McDevitt & Street, where he worked on a broad range of commercial, multi-family, and health-care projects in Richmond and Charlottesville.
