Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group has received a $15.8 million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy to recover and purify highly enriched uranium.
The recovery work will be completed at Babcock & Wilcox’s Lynchburg facility. Under the contract, B&W will recover enriched uranium from the scrap materials that were previously stored at the DOE’s Y-12 National Security Complex in Texas.
The award is part of the DOE’s plans to remove enriched uranium from its facilities. The work on the material is expected to begin in mid-2012 and continue until 2016.
