Frank Batten Sr., former CEO and chairman of Landmark
Communications Inc. of
Norfolk, gave $100 million to the
University of
Virginia to create The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public
Policy, the first new school to be created at the university since establishment
of the Darden Graduate Business School 53 years ago. The
gift by Batten, a 1950 U.Va. graduate, is the largest in the school’s
history. The
Batten
School is expected to open in 2009 with 400 undergraduate
and graduate students. (
