Cadmus Communications Corp., a Richmond-based publishing services company, was bought by Cenveo Inc., a Stamford, Conn., commercial printing company, for $430 million. The merger will create the third-largest graphic communications company in North America. Cadmus shareholders will receive $24.75 for each share held. ( Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Commonwealth Biotechnologies Inc., a Richmond-based life sciences research company, bought the outstanding capital stock, 2.2 million shares, of Mimotopes Pty Ltd. of Melbourne, Australia , a producer of research-grade peptides. PharmAust Ltd., owner of Mimotopes, will receive a 39.5 percent equity stake in Commonwealth from the sale. CBI expects strong revenue potential from the growth in demand for peptides, as well as open possibilities in the Pacific Rim market. (News release)

Gateway Insurance Services Inc. acquired C.D. West & Co., a Newport News-based insurance provider. West will provide Gateway a vehicle for expansion of its commercial insurance lines in Virginia. Gateway is a subsidiary of Gateway Bank & Trust, a financial services company headquartered in Virginia Beach. (News release)

NeuStar Inc., a Sterling-based communications company, bought Followap Inc. of Great Britain , a provider of mobile communications services for $139 million in cash. The deal allows NeuStar to grow in the international mobile market. (PRNewwire)

Towne Bank, a Portsmouth financial services provider, acquired The Frieden Agency Inc. of Virginia Beach, the employee-benefit affiliate of The Frieden Agency. Towne plans to merge its acquisition with Benefit Design Group, a subsidiary of Towne Insurance Agency, to offer more services and expand beyond the Hampton Roads market.
