Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex Inc., a manufacturer
of small home appliances based in
Richmond, filed suit against Sunpentown International of City of Industry, Calif.,
and Hung Hsing Electric Co. Ltd. of
Largo,
Fla., alleging infringement of several patents held by
Hamilton for the TrueAir odor eliminator, a plug-in device for removing odors. (PRNewwire)
MeadWestvaco Inc., a Richmond-based paper products
producer, was fined $19,000 for an accident that killed
one employee and injured another in April at its
Covington paper mill. The Virginia Department of Labor
and Industry ordered corrective action as well, citing
the same conditions at accidents in 1993 and 1989. The
accident occurred during maintenance of a hopper inside
a boiler when material falling to the bottom of the hopper
ignited and caused an explosion. (The
