laid off 450 employees in
Northern Virginia as part of previously announced cutbacks. The layoffs were
fewer than originally envisioned. Instead of losing 1,000 positions in

Dominion Resources, a
Richmond energy producer, indefinitely delayed installation
of pollution-scrubbing controls at its coal-fired power
plant in
Chesapeake, opting instead to import more foreign, low-sulfur
coal. The company says the cleaner-burning coal should

Glen Allen-based subsidiary of Morgan Stanley Mortgage
Capital Inc., laid off 75 to 100 employees after
its merger with Morgan Stanley. Saxon is a residential

Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. of
Edinburg, as part of a streamlining effort, will cut
50 positions through a combination of means, including
an early retirement offer, attrition and layoffs. As
part of its restructuring, the company is freezing its
