Why did you decide to specialize in construction law?
“The decision I made was to be a trial lawyer. I then had the opportunity to practice in the area of government contracts and construction law very early in my career.  I enjoyed that practice.”

What do you enjoy most about the work and what do you find most challenging?
“What I enjoy most about construction litigation is the variety of projects that I get involved in — anything from warehouses to office buildings to power plants. I also enjoy the witnesses involved in these cases; engineers, architects and contractors are naturally interesting people. The biggest challenge is understanding the technical aspects of a project; for example, how the heat rate of a power plant is calculated and how that heat rate drives the economics of the project.”

What are the biggest issues that your clients face right now?
“Many of my clients have construction projects all across the United States and internationally.  Their biggest challenge is to understand the different rules and regulations that apply in different jurisdictions. As a result, they need nationwide and international legal advice, which necessarily results in a very broad scope to my practice.”
