Highland New Development LLC, led by retired
poultry company executive Henry T. McBride of Harrisonburg,
received permission from the Highland County Board
of Supervisors to establish a 200-acre wind farm near
the West Virginia border. The project will involve
19 400-foot turbines to generate electricity from wind
power. The facility, should it pass expected court
and regulatory challenges, will be the first industrial
wind farm in the state. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
LandAmerica Financial Group Inc., a Richmond-based
provider of real estate transaction services, agreed
to pay $4.5 million to settle charges in California
of providing kickbacks to real estate developers. The
agreement is part of a settlement involving two other
companies and totaling $37.8 million in consumer refunds
and penalties. LandAmerica, which admitted no wrongdoing,
set aside $19 million, including the California settlement,
to deal with possible similar changes in other states
such as Colorado and Washington. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
