Gordon F. Rainey Jr.,
chairman of the Richmond law firm Hunton & Williams, was named to head the
$3 billion fundraising campaign at the University of
Virginia. Rainey received his undergraduate and law
degrees from U.Va. He recently completed a two-year
term as rector and serves on the school's Board of

Realtor Magazine named two Hampton Roads realtors
as finalists for The Good Neighbor Awards, which highlight
volunteer efforts by realtors. Greg Garrett of
Greg Garrett Realty in Newport News founded Orphan
Helpers to support children in orphanages and detention
centers around the world. He has helped raised over
$1 million for the effort since 2000. Jeanne Williams-Livesay of
William E, Wood & Associates of Chesapeake coordinates
efforts of 57 churches to provide shelter and meals
to the homeless from November to April for Portsmouth

Christopher Newport University in Newport News
received a $5 million gift from Smithfield Foods
Inc., through the Smithfield Luter Foundation Inc.
CNU will name its business school for Joseph W.
Luter III, Smithfield's chairman and CEO. The university
will apply $4 million of the gift to its endowment
and use the rest to set up a scholarship program. (Richmond

NASA named Tessada & Associates
Inc., a
Hispanic-owned outsourcing and consulting services
firm in Springfield, the 2005 Minority Contractor of
the Year. The company was nominated by the NASA Langley
Research Center for its work in providing logistics

John Charles Thomas of
the Richmond law firm Hunton & Williams was named
a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in
Lausanne, Switzerland.
The court settles disputes involving drug violations
and rules of international sports federations. An authority
on dispute resolution, Thomas received his law degree
from the University of Virginia and is a former justice
