Riverside Health Systems,
a Newport News health care provider, eliminated 25
jobs as part of a move to restructure management and
consolidate services. Part of the plan has been in
the works for several years, and includes loss of some
management and administrative jobs, and moving certain
psychiatric and substance abuse services to a facility
in Hampton. (Daily Press)
The Red Cross of Roanoke laid
off about 55 workers in its blood service operations,
roughly one-quarter of its employees. The move came
as part of a nationwide reorganization by The Red Cross,
based in Washington, D.C. No disruption was anticipated
in serving 38 hospitals throughout Southwest Virginia
and West Virginia. (The Roanoke Times)
