CarMax Inc., a Richmond retailer of used cars, was named to Fortune magazine's list of "Best Companies to Work For." CarMax ranked 87th out of 100 companies in this, the first time it has made the list. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Susan Drosdzal, chief concierge at the Hyatt Regency Reston, received the Excellence in Service Award from Hyatt Hotels, a distinction awarded only twice a year to 10 employees among Hyatt's 66,000-person workforce. A former teacher, Drosdzal has been with Hyatt for 13 years. (Press release)

The American Advertising Federation named Harry M. Jacobs, chairman emeritus of The Martin Agency, a Richmond-based ad agency, to the Advertising Hall of Fame. Jacobs helped lead Martin's emergence into a national agency after joining the firm in 1977 when it had $5 million in annual billings. Today it has over $400 million and has handled many national accounts. Jacobs retired from full-time work in 1997. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Old Dominion University in Norfolk received a $5.4 million gift from the estate of E.V. Williams, founder of the E.V. Williams Inc. construction company. The funds will be used to create two faculty chairs at ODU's business school. (The Virginian-Pilot)

John Melick, co-president of Primus Telecommunications Inc. of McLean, was awarded the 2005 VoIP Services CEO of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan. Melick was selected for his role in Primus' efforts to expand Voice Over Internet Protocol services. (Business Wire)

SRA International Inc., a Fairfax technology company, was named to Fortune magazine's list of "Best Companies to Work For," for the sixth straight year. SRA was ranked 44th out of 100 companies. (PR Newswire)
