Degree programs offered: Bachelor's degrees in biomedical, chemical and life science, electrical and computer, and mechanical engineering and computer science. VCU School of Engineering offers an exciting and leading-edge family of degree options in vital engineering disciplines and computer science. Programs of study emphasize the personalization of coursework and research topics to fit the needs of the student. Engineering and programming courses are offered early on in the freshman year. Independent study, hands-on project work and undergraduate research are highlighted for engineering and computer science students.
Graduate degrees cover high-impact topics at the exciting intersection of engineering, computer science, life sciences, medicine and business. Research thrust areas in engineering center on Life Sciences, Micro-Nanotechnology, and Manufacturing and Design. These areas allow for extremely flexible courses of study for graduate students and validate the highly innovative and collaborative nature of the graduate program.
VCU School of Engineering is located at 601 West Main Street in a 120,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. Specialty labs and centers include the C. Kenneth and Dianne Harris Wright Virginia Microelectronics Center (7,500 square feet of Class 1000 clean room space) and the Center for Bioelectronics, Biosensors and Biochips (C3B). Biomedical Engineering enjoys additional square footage on the VCU Medical Campus.
Enrollment includes approximately 1,100 undergraduates and 150 graduate students. A faculty size approaching 50 assures a close interaction between student / teacher and represents a cornerstone of the educational programs found at VCU School of Engineering.
