Anderson & Strudwick, a Richmond investment firm, opened an office in Charlotte, N.C. The move advances the company's goal of having five to 10 offices in North Carolina. Thomas Wingfield was named senior vice president and branch manager. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

General Electric plans to hire 30 electrical engineers at its Salem Wind Energy Plant in an effort to increase production and meet production in the wind-energy market, which is expected to undergo significant growth in the near future. (The Roanoke Times)

MAFC Residential, a Chantilly residential real estate investment company, selected Richmond for its third office. The company buys private residences, renovates and resells them. It operates in the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C. region and Virginia Beach. (Press release)

Massey Energy Company, a Richmond-based coal company, plans to begin production at its Mammoth Coal Company facility in Kanawha County, W.Va. Massey bought the operation through bankruptcy court auction and anticipates production of 800,000 tons in 2005. (PRNewswire)

Snack Alliance Inc., a snack food manufacturer headquartered in Hermiston, Oregon bought the Wise Snack Food plant in Bristol and will invest $9.8 million to maintain the plant and its 85 jobs, as well as add 95 new workers. Virginia completed with South Carolina for the project. (Press release)

West Corp., an Omaha, Neb.-based provider of outsourcing services, plans to add 300 workers to its call center operation in Hampton which already employees 1,400. Increased demand from company's outsourcing service operations, and a new contract with Cingular Wireless prompted the expansion. (Daily Press)

Xybernaut Corp., a technology company headquartered in Fairfax, launched a Seoul, Korea-based subsidiary, Xybernaut Korea Ltd., in an effort to expand its presence in the Pacific Rim markets. (Business Wire)
