Highland Hospitality Corp., a McLean-based lodging real estate investment trust, acquired the Courtyard Denver Airport hotel for $17.3 million. The 202-room facility fits into the company's strategy for upscale properties in urban and major airport markets. (8/26/04, PR Newswire)

First Community Bancshares Inc., a Bluefield bank holding company, sold its subsidiary United First Mortgage of Richmond to Access National Bank, a subsidiary of Access National Corp., a bank holding company headquartered in Reston, in a cash transaction. (8/19/04, Business Wire)

Anteon International Corp., a Fairfax information technology company, bought Integrated Management Services Inc. (IMSI) of Arlington in a $29 million cash transaction. comScore Networks, a Reston-based provider of business intelligence on consumer behavior, acquired Q2 Brand Intelligence of Seattle, Wash., a custom survey research firm and consultant to Fortune 1000 companies. Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Company, a risk management firm headquartered in Richmond, acquired J.J. Adams Group, a Chicago-based insurance broker. The deal advances Hilb Rogal's strategy of building its presence in the Midwest. (8/9/04, Business Wire)

MSSI-Telescience International Inc., an information technology company headquartered in Vienna, bought PracticeOne, a provider of software for the clinical and medical practice markets. Tredegar Film Products Corp., a subsidiary of Richmond's Tredegar Corp. purchased the Shanghi Yaheng Perforated Film Material Co. of Shanghi, China. Anteon International Corp., a Fairfax information technology company, bought Simulation Technologies Inc. of San Antonio, Texas, in a $15 million cash transaction. Simulation designs and produces training systems for military customers, in particular for war gaming and testing scenarios of chemical and biological effects, fields that compliment Anteon's simulation business for the homeland security and national defense customers. Witt Mare Eggleston Smith, a Newport News accounting firm, merged with Pannell Forster Mid-Atlantic of Fairfax.
