Dataline, a Norfolk-based IT firm, developed a portable communications package to link military forces in the field with command centers. The 75-pound units fit into a back and allow encrypted communications via voice, text and streaming video. The portable units were developed along the lines of larger, heavier units designed for mounting in vehicles, ships and aircraft. (8/4/04, Daily Press)
