| Survey says: help wanted
Virginia Business
May 2004
It
turns out that the promised economic recovery might
not be quite so jobless — at least not in Virginia.
The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, released in
March, found that employers in the Old Dominion expect
to hire at a faster pace than the rest of the country,
with 35 percent of surveyed businesses expecting to
increase the size of their work force in the second
quarter of 2004. Nationally, just 28 percent of employers
expect to boost their current staff levels.
Manpower surveyed Virginia businesses in 11 regions,
and job prospects across the state appeared particularly
strong in construction, services and durable and non-durable
goods manufacturing. The following shows the percentage
of employers in each region that plan to expand their
labor force.
