HT Motorsports, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck team based in Harrisburg, N.C., announced plans to relocate to Henry County and create 75 jobs through a $400,000 investment. In addition, HT Motorsports will partner with Patrick Henry Community College and Arrington Manufacturing to construct the Virginia Motorsports Technology Center (VMTC) to house the race team as well as an expanded community college motor sports work force development program. The $1.2 million, 50,000-square-foot facility will house the college’s advanced motor sports curriculum, which will include training in all phases of accelerated motor sports performance technology. The advanced curriculum will be offered in January 2005.

HT Motorsports will initially operate within the Arrington Manufacturing facility at Henry County’s Patriot Centre Business Park. The team will become a tenant of VMTC when it is constructed in late 2004. HT Motorsports has committed to employing 75 people over the first 30 months, paying an average of $16 an hour. The team will also invest $400,000 in machinery, equipment and site improvements.

Launched in August 2003, the Virginia Motorsports Initiative is comprised of public and private sector partners actively promoting and supporting motor sports activities in Virginia as a means for economic development.
