Advanced Polyurethane Technologies,
a manufacturer of polyurethane rubber boots,
chose Mecklenburg County as the site for its
new operations. Through an investment of $1.26
million, 180 new jobs are expected within five
years. Virginia competed with North Carolina,
New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas and the United Kingdom

Globaltex Inc., a provider
of custom yarns for the furniture industry,
chose Henry County as the site for its U.S.
textile manufacturing operations. The company
will invest $5.2 million to purchase a 77,000-square-foot
facility previously owned by VF, and plans to
create 154 new jobs in three years. Virginia
competed with North Carolina and South Carolina

Lockheed Martin, a Bethesda,
Md., defense contractor, announced plans to
build a $30 million computer-based modeling,
simulation and integration center in Suffolk.
The investment is expected to create 50 new
jobs over a three-year period. (Press release)
MZM Inc., a Washington,
D.C.-based technology company, chose Martinsville
to establish a database and IT facility to complete
a contract for the U.S. Army National Ground
Intelligence Center in Charlottesville. The
company will invest $4.4 million and is expected
to create 150 new jobs over three years. Virginia
competed with Washington, D.C., for the project.
